Most drum synths ask you to program a pattern. Ravik writes one for you, and it's free right now.
## What it is Per Bedroom Producers Blog, Våld Labs' Ravik is an eight-channel drum synthesizer. Each channel is its own instrument, with its own synth engine, sequence, tuning, scale, filters, modulation and effects. The beta is version 0.2.1.
## What's under the hood There are 47 synthesis engines, including physical modeling and granular. Four six-operator FM engines cover percussion, bells and plucks, with 64 sounds each. Nine generative algorithms drive the sequencer, among them Euclidean rhythms, random walks and cellular automata. You can set probability, swing and ratchets per channel. Filters are inspired by the SEM and the Polivoks. There are eight optional stereo outs if you want to process each drum in your DAW.
## Formats and the catch It runs as AU and VST3 on macOS 11 and later, Intel and Apple Silicon. Windows gets VST3 on 64-bit systems. On iPhone and iPad it's a standalone app and an AUv3, joined through TestFlight. Downloads are around 20 MB on Mac and 31 MB on Windows, from valdlabs.com/ravik. It's free during the public beta, and the reviewer doesn't expect the final version to be free. You may need to verify an email on first launch.
## For beatmakers This isn't a sample-chopper's tool. It's for building a kick, snare or hat from scratch and letting a probability lane keep the groove from sounding the same twice. That fits a lot of modern drum programming. We haven't tested it, so we're not promising how it sounds.
## The read Free and in beta is a window, not a deal. Grab it, A/B it against your usual kit, and decide in a session. If it earns a slot, you'll know before the price changes.
