Fif and Shyne, Same Table.

A chance meeting at Serafina in New York turned a 2003 Flex freestyle jab into 50 calling Shyne a 'world leader.' Shyne told the story on TODAY.

Two men who spent the early 2000s trading shots over a prison phone line ended up at the same Italian restaurant, and the beef died over dinner. Shyne told the story Wednesday, September 9, on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, and Complex (@Complex) had it up Thursday.

## How it happened Shyne was eating at Serafina in New York. Michael Blackson was in the back. 50 Cent walked in for a dinner tied to his Branson Cognac and Sire Spirits business. Photographer Johnny Nunez, who has shot every room in this industry for 25 years, made the introduction: "50, Shyne is over there." That was it. No handlers, no publicist statement, no Clubhouse mediation.

Fif followed on Instagram: "I'm not gonna front shyne impresses me. World leader, he shown nothing but growth. When I get some free time I'll come to your country." Shyne, now a sitting member of Belize's House of Representatives and leader of the opposition, framed it as the job of an elder statesman: "I've offered olive branches to anyone that I may have had any issues with."

## The beef, for the record In 2003, on a Funkmaster Flex freestyle, 50 threw a line at Shyne while he was serving time for the 1999 Club New York shooting: "I heard Irv trying to sign Shyne, so I ain't got no love for him, tell 'em 50 said he soft." Shyne answered in 2004 with "For the Record" on Godfather Buried Alive, recorded over a prison phone. Twenty-plus years of intermittent jabs followed. Neither man ever needed the other; that's what made it last.

## Why it matters past the headline Shyne's line on TODAY was the one that stuck: this was "a great moment for hip hop to show the evolution of hip hop at 53." Two Brooklyn-adjacent stories, two very different exits from the same era. 50 turned a shooting and a Shady/Aftermath deal into a television empire and a liquor company; Shyne turned an eight-year sentence into a political career in the country his family came from. Both of them are proof that the second act is where the money and the power actually live. The reconciliation is nice. The fact that it happened between a network owner and a head of a national party is the part worth sitting with.
