Snoop Hosts. L.A. Gets the VMAs Back. September 27.

CBS and MTV confirmed Thursday that Snoop Dogg hosts and executive-produces the 2026 Video Music Awards from the Peacock Theater, the show's first West Coast broadcast since 2017.

Thirty-two years after he first walked onto a VMA stage as the Death Row rookie with the Doggystyle braids, Snoop Dogg is running the whole show. On Thursday, September 10, CBS and MTV confirmed that Snoop hosts the 2026 Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27 from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. He's also an executive producer on the broadcast. @MTV and the @VMAs account broke it with a clip of him walking out of a cloud of smoke, which is the most on-brand teaser a network has cut in years.

## The West Coast gets it back The bigger headline for anyone who lives west of the 5 is the venue. The VMAs have been an East Coast show since 2018: New Jersey, Brooklyn, Newark, and last year's ceremony in New York with LL Cool J hosting, per HotNewHipHop. The last time the show broadcast from L.A. was 2017 at the Forum. So MTV is moving the biggest night on its calendar back to Los Angeles and handing the mic to the man who is, functionally, the city's cultural ambassador. That is not a coincidence. That is a booking.

## Thirty-two years on that stage Snoop's VMA résumé reads like a timeline of the network itself. Main-stage debut in 1994, the year "Gin and Juice" and "Doggy Dogg World" were on every TV in the country and he took Best Rap Video. He closed the 1999 show with Dr. Dre and Eminem at the exact moment Aftermath was resetting the sound of rap radio. He led the Notorious B.I.G. tribute in 2005. He came back with Eminem in 2022 for that Bored Ape metaverse performance that half the room loved and half the room screenshotted. Thirteen nominations, three wins, per Complex: 1994, 2006 for Best Dance Video, and 2015 for Best Art Direction.

His statement leaned into all of that: "Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV, they gave hip hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that's a full-circle moment for me."

## The second act keeps growing Zoom out and hosting the VMAs is one more line in a run that has made Snoop the most bankable live-TV presence rap has ever produced. NBC's Olympics coverage in Paris and again in Milan. A coaching chair on The Voice. A New Year's Eve special with his name on it. The Super Bowl LVI halftime with Dre, Em, Kendrick, Mary J. and 50. Now an executive-producer credit on the VMAs, which means he isn't just reading the teleprompter; he's in the room deciding who performs. For a Long Beach kid who was fighting a murder charge the same year he made his VMA debut, the arc is the story. Ownership, not just presence.

## What else is confirmed Nirvana receives the Video Vanguard Award, the first time the honor goes to a band that hasn't existed as a working unit since 1994, the same year Snoop debuted on that stage. Performers, presenters and guests get announced in the run-up. The show airs live coast to coast on CBS and MTV at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT, streams on Paramount+ Premium in the U.S., and hits the service globally the next day.

For the Sneakz audience, the calendar now reads like this: Ye's Soldier Field homecoming, the VMAs from L.A. with Snoop, then Halloween in Houston. Set the reminder for the 27th. If Snoop is booking the performers, the West Coast lineup is going to be loud.
