Why the 9 is the odd one
Michael Jordan never wore the Air Jordan 9 in an NBA game. He retired to play baseball in 1993, the 9 came out without him, and the only time the world saw him in it at full speed was on a movie screen in 1996, playing against animated aliens. That's the shoe's whole identity. It's the retirement Jordan, and Space Jam is the reason it has one.
The statue outside the United Center wears the 9. Same reason.
What's on the shoe
Clean white leather, the black rubber cage around the heel with the "Nike Air"-era 23 branding, red on the Jumpman and the midsole details. The 2026 pair keeps the OG cut — slimmer than the 2016 retro — which is what people have been asking for.
The take
Nostalgia is doing most of the work here, and that's fine. Everybody between 25 and 45 watched that movie on VHS until the tape wore out. A $215 pair with the right shape and the right box is an easy yes. It won't be a hard cop; the 9 never is. Wait for the sizes you want.
