Two Episodes From the End, Bleach Hit Pause.

The production committee delayed The Calamity's final two episodes to Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 'to improve quality,' filling the gap with four rerun weeks. The Aizen return you just watched was the last new episode for a month.

Saturday's Episode 48 gave the fandom Aizen. Saturday also gave it a notice on the official site: the next two episodes, the ones that carry The Calamity into its climax, are moving to October. Anime Corner and Crunchyroll News both reported it September 12.

The new dates

Episode 49 airs on TV Tokyo October 19, with BS TV Tokyo and streaming on October 20. Episode 50 follows on October 26 and 27. The committee's reason is the standard one, additional quality improvements heading into the climax, with an apology attached. Given that Part 4 already moved its streaming window to Tuesdays on September 5 and delayed Episode 47 in the process, this is the second schedule hit in a week, and it's the bigger one.

In the meantime, TV Tokyo is running a "Climax Selection" of reruns: Episode 7 "BORN IN THE DARK" on September 19, Episode 28 "KILL THE KING" on September 26, Episode 46 "THE END" on October 5, and Episode 48 "THE END TWO WORLD" on October 12. That's a curated rewatch of the four episodes that set up whatever the finale is about to do.

Why a delay this late is a good sign

Pierrot's whole redemption arc with Bleach has been about doing the thing it didn't do in 2012: finishing the story with the budget it deserves. Tite Kubo has said Part 4 contains more original material than any previous cour, which means the last two episodes aren't just adapting manga pages, they're staging content that has never existed. A studio that pushes two episodes a month rather than shipping them rushed is a studio that has learned from The Lost Agent.

The fandom will complain, and it has earned the right to. Bleach was the Big Three member that got treated like the third one, and its fans spent a decade being told the ending wasn't coming at all. Four rerun weeks is a small tax on a finale that's finally real.
