The biggest game of the decade is ten weeks out, and the loudest conversation this week isn't about the map. It's about frames. Rockstar's head of development, Rob Nelson, told creators who visited Rockstar North that GTA 6 is running at 30fps on console during development, and he couldn't commit to a 60fps mode at launch or after.
## What Rockstar actually said Nelson's line, relayed by YouTuber Davy Jones and Brazil's Flow Games, is that the consoles are at 30 frames per second right now, and the technical team would have to weigh in on whether a 60fps option ever shows up. No resolution details. No ray tracing details. Just the number that matters to a lot of people: 30.
## Why this isn't a shock Look at the track record. GTA 5 didn't get 60fps until the PS5 and Series X upgrade, years after launch. Red Dead Redemption 2 still doesn't have an official 60fps mode on modern consoles. Rockstar builds for density first: every street, every NPC, every system talking to every other system. That's the cost. The 20-minute Netflix extended look on August 27 was captured on a base PS5, and it looked the way it looked at 30.
## The rest of the week's GTA news The frame rate ate the headlines, but the other reveals are the ones you'll feel: tap-X-to-sprint is gone, which split the fan base clean in half. Fans have already counted more than 250 vehicles across trailers and screenshots, more than GTA 5 shipped with. And Rockstar even cut a separate trailer for China with smoking, dancing and cleavage trimmed out, which tells you how global this launch is.
## The date that matters November 19, 2026, midnight local time, PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. No PC at launch, and GTA 5's port took about 18 months. If 60fps is a dealbreaker for you, that's the version to wait on. If you just want Vice City in your hands the night it opens, 30 frames is the deal on the table.
Real talk: nobody's cancelling a pre-order over a frame counter. But it's fair to want Rockstar to say it out loud, and this week they basically did.
