Wolverine Week One: Hotfix and a Denial

Hotfix v1.001.005 turns down the scent trails and Audio Sense indicators that reviewers hated, with a toggle 'being evaluated.' Separately, community director James Stevenson says a bathroom sign fans flagged as AI is a UV map bug: 'There are no AI generated assets in Marvel's Wolverine.'

1.9 million copies in three days and the loudest complaint was a glowing line on the floor. Insomniac heard it.

## The hotfix Hotfix v1.001.005 went out over the weekend. Per GamingBolt on Sunday, September 20, the scent trails that lead Logan through story sequences have had their opacity reduced so they read "less intense," and the Audio Sense indicators got the same treatment. Neither is gone. Insomniac says it's still evaluating "ways to further improve Senses," which is patch-note language for a toggle that isn't ready yet. The hotfix also fixes some "common crashes" a small number of players hit.

The handholding was the review-cycle story: white paint on ledges, signs, and a scent line in a game that's mostly linear anyway. Metacritic sits at 77 on 128 reviews. GamingBolt gave it a 10; others called the story and combat uneven. The PlayStation Store rating is 4.76 out of 5 on 40,000 votes, which tells you the people who paid are fine.

## The AI sign Players found a bathroom sign with the melted-text look that generative images tend to have and the clip went around. Insomniac community and marketing director James Stevenson answered on X September 18: "No. This is a UV map bug and we have a fix coming. There are no AI generated assets in Marvel's Wolverine." That's as flat a denial as a studio gives. Context matters: PlayStation has said it uses generative tools for placeholder art and voice during development, so the suspicion wasn't crazy. It just wasn't this.

## The numbers Alinea Analytics' estimate, which we covered, is 1.9 million units and about $130 million in three days, behind only Spider-Man 2 among PlayStation exclusives in the same window. A divisive review score and a hit are not in conflict. They're the same week.

## The take Insomniac shipped a fix for the thing people hated within seven days and put a named human in front of the AI question the same weekend. That's how you protect a franchise launch. The toggle is the actual ask, and "evaluating" means it's coming; the studio just won't date it until it's tested.
