Five Minutes. One Hurricanrana. Lil Yachty Is a Wrestler Now.

At WWE's Sunday Night's Main Event in Atlanta, Yachty survived a Beat the Clock challenge against Baron Corbin to earn his client Trick Williams a title shot. Williams won the belt the same night.

Rappers at wrestling shows are usually there to do a walkout and hold a belt for the camera. Lil Yachty took a bump. On Sunday, September 6, at WWE's Sunday Night's Main Event in Atlanta, he got in the ring with Baron Corbin for a five-minute Beat the Clock challenge, and he made it out. XXL has the recap; the clips did the rest.

The stipulation

The setup was pure WWE booking. Yachty manages Trick Williams on television, the former NXT champion who has been fighting his way toward the United States title. If Yachty could avoid being pinned or submitted by Corbin for five minutes, Williams would get his shot. Quavo walked him to the ring. Somewhere in the middle of it, Yachty hit a hurricanrana, which is not a move you expect from a man best known for "One Night."

He survived. Later that night, Williams beat Corbin in 11 minutes and 14 seconds to win the United States Championship for the second time. Hometown show, hometown rapper, hometown pop. WWE knows how to build a night.

The part he took personally

When WWE first put Yachty on TV in April, the response from wrestling fans was the response rappers always get: what is he doing here. He answered on X at the time, asking who's to say he doesn't deserve to be part of something he loves. Five months later he's taking a real shot from a 6'8" former NFL lineman on a live broadcast. That's the receipt.

Rap and wrestling have been the same audience since Wu-Tang was sampling promos, and WWE has spent the last few years admitting it: Wale at the Royal Rumble, Sexyy Red in NXT, Travis Scott at WrestleMania. Yachty is the first one who committed to a storyline instead of a cameo, and the Williams title win gives the angle a payoff. Managers who get their client the belt tend to stick around.

Between this and the A Safe Place podcast relaunch, Yachty is having the most on-camera week of his year, and none of it involved a song. That's either a pivot or a very good vacation.
