Black Clover Returns Oct. 3: 'War Begins'

Five years after the anime stopped at episode 170, Studio Pierrot released the first preview and synopsis for Season 2's opener. Asta and Liebe train Devil Union, Yuno hunts Zenon, and the Spade Kingdom war starts. Crunchyroll streams it worldwide.

The Black Clover anime went dark in March 2021 at episode 170, one arc into the Spade Kingdom story, and told everybody to read the manga. Monday it picked up where it left off with a title card: "War Begins."

## The synopsis Episode 171, per the official account (via Anime Corner): the Magic Knights are preparing to rescue Yami and the others abducted by the Dark Triad. Asta and Liebe, Devil-Binding Ritual complete, are training Devil Union. Yuno is training to beat Zenon, who already beat him once, and get Vangeance back. In the Spade Kingdom, the exiled scholar Morris is steadily opening the gates of the underworld. Then the Clover Kingdom's elite go to war.

## The staff Ayataka Tanemura directs, Keiichiro Ochi on series composition, Itsuko Takeda on character design, Minako Seki on music, Studio Pierrot animating. WANIMA's "Kienai Riyuu" is the opening. Pierrot is the same house that ran the first 170 and finished Bleach's last arc after a decade off, which is the comparison that matters here.

## The date and the screening October 3, Crunchyroll worldwide. Before that, Season 2 screens early Monday night, September 21, as part of Crunchyroll's Anime Nights Sneak Peek in select U.S. and Canadian theaters, alongside Overgeared, Firefly Wedding, The Vermilion Mask and Psyren. ## Why it's big-name Yuki Tabata's manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2015, moved to Jump GIGA in 2023 and ended May 1 after eleven years. The anime has 170 episodes and a Netflix movie. This isn't a niche premiere; it's one of the last big Jump shonen of the 2010s getting its ending animated, and the room that watched it on Toonami is the room this show talks to. Eleven days.
