Roc Nation's management roster got a new name Monday morning, and it's not one from the usual pipeline. Jackson Wang, the Hong Kong-born former GOT7 member who has spent the last four years turning himself into a global solo act, is now managed by Jay-Z's company. He announced it with a song called "Thank You" and a video shot on a phone.
## What happened Per Complex, which ran it Monday, September 21, Roc Nation confirmed the management signing in a press release the same day, putting Jackson under the same umbrella as A$AP Rocky, Clipse, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion and Rihanna. Hov gave the quote himself: "We're excited to have Jackson Wang join our family here at Roc Nation," he said, per Bandwagon. "He's an incredible artist with a very special drive." @RocNation pushed the announcement on its channels and @JacksonWang852 posted the video the same morning.
## The video "Thank You" is a fan song, and the video is built like one. Jackson co-directed it with Ojun Kwon, shot it in black and white on the iPhone 18 Pro that Apple unveiled earlier this month, and filled it with fans instead of extras. Applications came in from more than 80 countries; 30 people made the cut, from China, the U.S., Australia, Mexico, the UK, Malaysia and Singapore, per Dork. The cut moves through his life in order: the gymnastics and Junior Olympic-level saber fencing he did before music, childhood friends, the idol years, the solo run, and now the Roc Nation chapter. In a long note on Instagram, Jackson framed it as a principle, not a stunt: "I don't need a middle person or a filter standing between me and my fans."

## Why Roc Nation Look at what Jackson brought to the table. Per Bandwagon, MAGIC MAN 2 debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and put him in the Top 15 of the Artist 100, and the North and Latin American legs of the tour sold out the Kia Forum and Barclays Center. A mainland China run starts in October. That's a real touring business with an audience Roc Nation's roster doesn't currently reach, which is the point of a management deal: Roc gets a lane into Asia's live market and the fan-army economics that come with it, and Jackson gets the company that just spent a decade running the Super Bowl halftime show and building Rocky, Megan and Rihanna into brands that are bigger than their discographies.
There's a pattern here. Roc Nation's management arm has never been a hip-hop-only shop; it's a leverage shop. Jay-Z's business model has always been to get in the room where the money changes hands and then bring the artists with him. A global star with a Team Wang fashion line, a fencing backstory and a fanbase that will fly in from Malaysia to be in a music video is exactly the kind of client that makes Roc Nation's next brand conversation easier. Whether the culture that built Roc gets anything back from that trade is the part worth watching.
## The read "Thank You" is a gratitude record, and gratitude records are usually the last thing before a pivot. The Roc Nation signing says the pivot is West: bigger U.S. features, bigger U.S. brand deals, and a management team that knows how to sell a non-American star to an American audience without sanding off what made him. Jackson has spent his solo career insisting nobody stand between him and the fans. He just hired the most powerful middle person in the business. That's not a contradiction; it's the move. Roc doesn't stand between you and the fans, it stands between you and the check.
