TL;DR
Netflix put out episode one of Steel Ball Run on March 19 and then nothing. Fans went off. The result: the 2nd STAGE starts September 25, one episode every Friday, 11 episodes covering stages two and three of the race. Weekly. Not binge-dumped.
What Steel Ball Run is
Part 7 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and for a lot of readers the best one. It's 1890. Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who lost the use of his legs, teams up with Gyro Zeppeli, an outlaw who fights with spinning steel balls, to ride a cross-continental horse race across America for a $50 million prize. Underneath the race is a hunt for holy relics and a president who wants them. It's a western, a road story and a Stand battle series at the same time.
Why the release model is the story
Anime fans hate the Netflix dump. Weekly episodes are how the community works — the discourse, the reaction videos, the edits, all of it lives in the seven days between episodes. Netflix dropping a single episode and disappearing for six months was the worst of both worlds, and people said so loudly enough that the platform changed the plan.
That's a win worth noting. It's rare that a streamer reverses on release strategy because of the audience.
The take
If you fell off JoJo after Stone Ocean, this is the one to come back for. New Joestar, new setting, no prior parts required. Fridays from the 25th.
