Cudi on Ye: 'Not the Words That Came Out of My Mouth.'

A dinner-table conversation ended up on Hot 97, and Kid Cudi spent two days cleaning it up. The apology is accepted. The version of what he said about Ye is not.

Nothing new from Ye himself this week. The Ye story came from the man who made Kids See Ghosts with him, and it's about who gets to narrate that relationship.

## What happened Kid Cudi and Ebro Darden ended up seated next to each other at a dinner. Cudi says it was a private conversation. Ebro later talked about parts of it on The Ebro, Laura & Rosenberg Show, per HotNewHipHop on Sept. 17. Ebro's version, as summarized by Complex: Cudi called publicly reconnecting with Ye "tough," still considers Ye his "brother," and wants to keep loving him.

Cudi's first reaction was to call Ebro "thirsty" and "classless" on X for turning a dinner into content. By that night Ebro had apologized, Cudi accepted, and both said it was squashed.

## The part that didn't get squashed On Sept. 18 Cudi came back with a second statement, per HotNewHipHop. The problem wasn't only privacy. "Whatever Ebro said is not the words that came out of my mouth. And that was the biggest issue." He pushed on the idea that he'd been trading Ye stories with a stranger: "People want to know details about me and Ye, I get it, but im not runnin my mouth about personal things to strangers. Everything we spoke about was stuff the public already knows."

Then the line that matters for anyone quoting him next week: take anything attributed to him "with a grain of salt" unless it comes from him directly. "I squashed it w Ebro, but it seems the damage is done."

## Where Ye and Cudi actually stand Public record only. The two fell out in 2022, when Ye pulled Cudi off Donda 2 and Cudi said he was done. Cudi has since said, in his own interviews, that he wishes Ye well and isn't looking for a public reunion. Ebro's retelling doesn't contradict that; it just put softer, more specific language on it than Cudi was willing to own. That's the whole fight. When you've been the subject of somebody else's narration for four years, you get protective about the transcript.

## The read For the show this is the Ye slot without a Ye headline, and that's fine. The man's next stop is Jakarta on Oct. 24, then Houston on Halloween. Until he posts, the loudest Ye story of the week was two other people arguing about what one of them said about him, and one of them insisting: hear it from me or don't count it.
