Nicki on Fox: 'I Just Love Him.'

On Sept. 18 Nicki sat with Laura Ingraham, called Trump 'very grounded,' and said she won't make excuses for supporting him. The same day she judged the SBA's $1M pitch finale in D.C.

Nobody who has followed Nicki since the Treasury Department stage in January expected an apology. She didn't offer one.

## What she said Friday, Sept. 18, on Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, per HotNewHipHop: "He's very grounded. It's easy to connect with him." On the criticism from her own fanbase and from hip-hop: "I'm not ever going to make excuses for that, because I don't know why I should." TMZ ran it as a refusal to apologize; Just Jared pulled the line that became the headline everywhere: "I just love him."

## The other gig that day Same Friday, Nicki was in Washington as a judge for the Small Business Administration's Million Dollar Pitch Competition finale, sitting alongside Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, with Dean Cain hosting and five finalists splitting a $1 million pool funded by Clover Network. That's the piece of the story that doesn't fit the outrage cycle: a Queens rapper on a federal small-business panel, handing out capital.

## How we got here January: Nicki joined Trump onstage at the Treasury's Trump Accounts Summit and called herself his "number one fan." He called her "a winner" and "a terrific person" at the Melania premiere. Every step since has been more public, not less. This is not a slip. It's a position.

## The read Hip-hop has spent two years arguing about which artists sat with which politician, and most of those artists tried to have it both ways afterward. Nicki isn't doing that. You can think she's wrong, and a large share of her audience does, loudly. But she is doing the thing the culture claims to respect and rarely rewards: saying it on camera, on the network built for it, and refusing the walk-back. The Barbz will decide what that costs her. The SBA check cleared either way.
