Twenty months after Memphis police found Patrick Houston Jr. on Ketchum Road, the case finally has a shooter named in an indictment and a trial date a week away.

## The indictment Per ABC24 Memphis, reported Thursday, September 10 and picked up by XXL on the 11th, a Shelby County grand jury indicted 18-year-old Jermiesia Franklin on two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence in the January 10, 2025 killing of Houston Jr., Project Pat's 21-year-old son. The robbery and tampering counts come from his phone, which prosecutors say she took after the shooting. She was 16 when it happened. Bond is $5 million. She also carries separate attempted second-degree murder and firearm charges from an unrelated September 2024 incident.

## Two defendants, one courtroom Franklin is the second arrest. Talia Jones, 19, was picked up in Minnesota in July 2025 and faces aggravated robbery and tampering charges; police say Franklin fired and Jones assisted. Both have a report date September 16 and a joint trial set to open Monday, September 21, per XXL. Complex and FOX13 Memphis carry the same charging details.

## What Pat has done instead of talking He hasn't commented, on the case or on the death. XXL notes he's stayed on his outreach work: prison visits, church appearances, the Go Foundation. For a man who wrote "Chickenhead" and "Don't Save Her," the silence is its own statement. Memphis rap has buried a lot of sons; this one belongs to the guy who, with Juicy J, built the sound the whole city runs on.

## What to watch Monday Whether the joint trial holds or gets severed, and whether the state's theory that a 16-year-old was the shooter survives a defense. Franklin's prior attempted-murder case will not be in front of this jury, but it's why the bond is what it is. The trial runs in Shelby County Criminal Court starting September 21; we'll follow it.
