An investment bank is counting Reddit visitors to guess how many copies of GTA 6 ship in November. The number they landed on is 48 million. Here's how they got there, and why you should treat it as a model, not a fact.
## The method Piper Sandler analyst James Callahan tracks weekly visitors to r/GTA6, then applies a multiplier drawn from roughly 15 past game launches to convert traffic into sales. In June the model said 45 million. The new note, out the week of September 11, says the subreddit went from about 700,000 weekly visitors in mid-August to 1.4 million after the leaks, 2.0 million after the Extended Look, and 2.7 million now. A 16x multiple on an expected 3 million weekly actives at launch gives 48 million. An 18x multiple on today's 2.7 million gives 48.6 million. He split the difference.
## The context he gives himself Piper's own formal estimate is about 30 million. The buy-side consensus he cites is about 40 million. So 48 million is upside to both, by his accounting, and he cut the multiplier in half from June to get there, which means he's being conservative on the math and aggressive on the crowd. He also notes the Reddit data looks better than some third-party pre-order tracking. Grain of salt, his words.
## The Netflix number A separate Ampere Analysis report puts numbers on the August 27 Netflix window: more than 100,000 U.S. sign-ups in six hours, Netflix's third-biggest acquisition day of 2026, behind only the Stranger Things finale and Rousey vs. Carano. More than 5 percent of U.S. subscribers who hadn't watched anything in 30 days came back specifically for the preview. The Extended Look did 31.1 million views.
## What to do with it Nothing. Rockstar hasn't said a word about sales targets, and Callahan's side read that Lucia's bench press scene hints at paid stat boosts is his speculation, not the studio's. What the two reports agree on is the useful part: the audience for this launch is now bigger than the audience for the franchise. November 19.
