Apple CEO John Ternus handed Speed the foldable iPhone Duo at Wednesday's Cupertino event. Speed barked, backflipped, and pulled the biggest independent audience of the day.

Apple unveiled its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, at Apple Park on Wednesday, September 9. The image that traveled wasn't a product render. It was Apple CEO John Ternus standing next to Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins Jr. while Speed held the phone and barked at him. Complex (@Complex) had the clip the same day.

## What happened Speed rehearsed the ask on stream before he walked up: "Hi, nice to meet you Mr. John... can I get a iPhone Duo? Nah, you can't ask it like that." Ternus handed him the device anyway, walked him through the fold, took a selfie. Then Speed did a full backflip holding Apple's most expensive new phone and landed it. Per Streams Charts, the event peaked at about 3.4 million concurrent viewers across livestream platforms, and Speed's channel was the largest independent audience covering it. He was in the building as a guest, not press.

## The phone, quickly iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable: 5.4-inch outer display, 7.6-inch inner screen, A20 Pro chip, two 48MP cameras, Apple Pencil support, "Star White" and "Night Sky." Pre-orders open October 16. That's the product story, and it's the second most interesting thing about Wednesday.

## The actual story A 21-year-old from Cincinnati is now the person Apple's CEO hands the flagship to on launch day. Speed already had a Beats campaign, a FIFA creator deal that had him in stadiums all World Cup, and a 60 million subscriber YouTube channel. Apple didn't need him for reach; they needed him because a bark and a backflip is a better ad than anything their agency shot. Corporate America has figured out that Black creator energy is the most valuable launch asset on the internet. The question we keep asking on this show is the same one: what does the creator own when the campaign ends? Speed owns his audience, which is the only thing Apple can't buy.
