Fourteen years ago Jordan Brand released six Air Jordan 9s for six fake basketball players who were all Michael Jordan in a costume. Monday, all six came back on one pair of shoes.
## The lore The 1993 retirement, the "Johnny Kilroy" ad campaign, the idea that MJ was secretly still balling under alter egos. In 2012 Jordan Brand gave each identity a 9: Johnny Kilroy, Motorboat Jones, Bentley Ellis, Slim Jenkins, Calvin Bailey and Fontay Montana. Some of those characters were on screen for seconds. ## The shoe Left foot: mostly black, dark blue on the lower half, orange midsole, yellow lining, white laces. Right foot: red leather, black overlays, light blue lining, black laces. The tongue tags list the six names across both shoes like a checklist, the heels alternate "23" and "4," and "KILROY WAS HERE" is printed behind the tongues. Three stacked Jumpmen on the insoles. It's a low, which is the compromise; it's also the closest the full pack has come to returning.
## The drop Released September 21 on Nike.com for $180, style IV6476-010, general release, not SNKRS. As of Monday it was still available. That's a walk-in shoe, and it should be: the people who care about Kilroy lore are 30 and up and don't want a raffle.
## The angle Jordan Brand's September has been Space Jam 30 and Last Dance callbacks. Kilroy is the deeper cut, the campaign that turned a retirement into a mystery. Wearing both stories on one pair, mismatched on purpose, is the most Jordan Brand thing they've done this month. Go get the size you actually wear.
