TL;DR

Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED put a date on it: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 streams October 20. Ten episodes, a standalone story, Studio Trigger back in the chair with a reimagined animation style. The trailer that went up August 21 is past 2.3 million views and counting.

The new crew

No David, no Lucy. Season one ended the way it ended. This is a new set of hired guns in the same city:

Roman Carax, a young cinephile filming Night City's brutality. Talia Yang, an ex-corpo who cut ties and got in with Maelstrom. D, a Snake Nation netrunner out for revenge. Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner stuck in the past. Netflix is calling it "a raw story of revenge and redemption," which is a fair description of the first one too.

Why it matters

Season one did something no anime tie-in had done: it made a two-year-old game sell like it was new. CD Projekt credited Edgerunners with pushing Cyberpunk 2077 past a million copies a week in fall 2022 and flipping the game's reputation. It won Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll Awards. It's the reason the Cyberpunk beat is a standing segment on this show.

Season two arrives a month before GTA 6. That's the whole fall for open-world crime stories, and Night City gets the first word.

What to watch for

The style change. Trigger's first season was kinetic and neon; the trailer for two looks heavier, more textured, more braindance sequences. If the writing holds — same universe, no legacy characters to lean on — this is the anime pick of the fall.
