TL;DR
Grand Theft Auto VI releases Thursday, November 19 at midnight local time on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Preloading opens November 12. Three things worth knowing this week: the physical version ships with a download code instead of a disc, Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson says the game is so big that nobody on the team knows all of it, and Rockstar will not yet promise a 60fps mode.
No disc in the box
If you buy physical, you're buying a box with a code in it. That tracks with Sony's own plan to stop pressing new discs by 2028, and it kills the used-copy market for the biggest game ever made in one move. Collectors will still want the box. Everybody else should just preload.
The 60fps question
Nelson's line was that Rockstar isn't ready to guarantee a 60fps mode. Read that plainly: base PS5 and Series X are probably 30fps at launch, and the PS5 Pro is the only place a performance mode might land. The discourse about this is going to run until launch day. GTA V ran at 30 on PS3, PS4 and every console until the PS5 version, and nobody's memory of the game is the frame rate.
Why we're tracking it
This is the show's lane — single-player, big-world, the biggest one there is. Ten weeks out, the window for news is narrowing to logistics, and logistics are what determine whether you're playing at 12:01 on the 19th.
The take
Preload on the 12th. Don't buy the disc-less physical unless you want the box. And if 30fps is what it is, it is — Vice City in that engine at 30 beats anything else at 60.
