Two free mix tools landed on Oct. 3, and they fix two problems every beatmaker hits: a mix that doesn't sound like the reference, and a low end that vanishes in mono.
## Polarity MEQ: match your mix to a reference Per Bedroom Producers Blog, Polarity MEQ is a free spectral matching EQ. You feed it a reference track, it learns that spectrum, compares it to your signal and builds an EQ curve to pull you toward it. It adds dynamic processing that reacts to loudness by frequency, a Carve EQ mode that cuts space using a sidechain source, and mid/side control. It has a Mastering mode and a Zero Latency mode for recording. You can save, search, group and average references, and export impulse responses that work with Bitwig's convolution tool.
Formats: VST3, CLAP, LV2 and standalone on Windows and Linux; AUv2 and VST3 on macOS, Intel and Apple Silicon. No account, serial or iLok. The listed version is 0.1.5, so treat it as early software.
## Soundins PhaXer: fix the low end in mono PhaXer is a free stereo phase correction tool. It improves phase correlation between left and right channels of a single stereo signal, which matters when a club system or phone speaker sums your mix to mono and the bass drops out. It targets a chosen frequency range, corrects either channel, and includes a correlation meter with 1/1, 1/3 and 1/6-octave resolutions. You can compare stereo and mono playback.
Formats: AU, VST, VST3 and AAX on macOS 10.15 or newer and Windows 10/11, with native Intel and Apple Silicon. Current version is 2.1 as of Oct. 3. PhaXer originally came out in 2023, so this is a refresh of an existing tool, not a brand new one.
## How to use them Run MEQ against a record you trust and watch where your mix differs, then fix it with your ears, not the curve. Put PhaXer on a bass or 808 bus, flip to mono, and see what comes back. Neither tool replaces your monitors. We haven't tested either one, so don't promise the sound.
## The read The gear shouldn't be the gate. Free tools like these mean the only cost is the time it takes to A/B them against your template. Do the work, then send the beat.
