Silent Hill is on a real run, three games in three years. Townfall is the first one played entirely in first person, and critics are mostly into it.
## What launched Silent Hill: Townfall is out today, Thursday, September 24, on PS5 and PC from Konami and Annapurna Interactive (Deluxe buyers got in on the 22nd). Scottish studio Screen Burn Interactive, formerly No Code (Stories Untold, Observation), built it with a team of about 30. You play Simon Ordell, voiced by Jovan Adepo, who keeps waking up in the water off St. Amelia, a fictional Scottish fishing town in 1996. Terry O'Quinn and Kezia Burrows round out the cast. There are five endings, and two of them are locked behind New Game Plus.
## What critics are saying Game Informer gave it an 8.25 and said it "continues the impressive return-to-form streak." Kyle Hilliard praised the first-person view and the peeking mechanic. He also liked Simon's portable CRT TV, which tracks monsters through static. GamesRadar+ called it "unrelentingly dark and disturbing horror."
The complaint is the same across reviews: the stealth. You're given almost no ammo and breakable melee weapons, so hiding is the game. But detection is inconsistent. Hilliard wrote that he reloaded saves often, and that an invincible stalker enemy left him "bored and annoyed instead of scared."

## The read Konami's move with Silent Hill is to treat it as "a phenomenon, a state of mind" instead of a town, and hand it to small studios with a point of view. f went to 1960s Japan. Townfall goes to a Fife fishing village. It's the opposite of how most publishers treat a legacy horror series, and it's working. It also launched the same day as Control Resonant, so horror fans have a lot to play this week.
