Silent Hill: Townfall is out on PS5 and PC. The PS5 version is landing. The PC version is sitting at "Mixed" on Steam, and Konami has confirmed a patch is in the works. (GamingBolt)
What's broken
Steam reviews point at performance, even on high-end rigs, plus crashes. Konami acknowledged the problems on the Steam news page and said it will announce a release date for the update "as soon as it is confirmed." So: fix coming, no timeline.
What's working
Even the negative reviews praise the look. One called St. Amelia — the small Scottish town where Simon Ordell tries to "put things right" — "one of the best settings I've seen in a horror game." GamingBolt gave the PS5 version a 9 out of 10, praising the story, pacing and performances, and knocking enemy variety and exploration.
Screen Burn developed it. Konami and Annapurna Interactive published. It's set in 1996, and writer Jon McKellan says that's the sweet spot for horror: no smartphone, no maps, but not so far back that you have nothing.
The pattern
We've seen this movie. A game launches the same week on console and PC, the console build gets the polish, and PC players become the beta testers. Series producer Motoi Okamoto said earlier this month he expected Townfall to beat Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f critically. The console reviews might get him there. The Steam page is gonna drag the story until that patch lands.
If you're on PC, wait for the update. If you're on PS5, it's here. This dropped the same day as Control Resonant, so you've got options.
