The Ace Was Propaganda. Now the Callsign Is Yours.

Bandai Namco released the first 16-plus minutes of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve ahead of its October 2 launch. The legendary pilot you're flying with turns out to be a propaganda creation, and he doesn't make it.

Most studios cut a trailer. Bandai Namco just posted the first 16 minutes of its game.

## What dropped On September 24, Bandai Namco released an "opening cinematic trailer" for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve that is the first 16-plus minutes of the game, interactive parts included, per Simulation Daily and GamingBolt. The game launches October 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, per Bandai Namco. Deluxe Edition owners get early access starting September 28.

## Spoilers for the opening You start as navigator for Jan "Rex" Cope, the pilot who holds the Wings of Theve callsign. The legend is fake. The Federation of Central Usea built him as a propaganda hero, and Cope has no kills. Cope dies, the callsign passes to you, and you take command of Joker Squad. The villain is Shadow 022.

## Why the premise works in 2026 A hero with a manufactured record, a name that's worth more than the person, a government running the image. That fits a timeline full of rented clout, ghostwritten posts and fake numbers. Whether Ace Combat does anything deep with it is a question for launch week. Opening with "the legend was marketing" is sharper than the series usually is.

## The stakes Ace Combat 7 shipped more than 7 million units, so this is a big release, and it launches the same week as a stacked fall slate. Showing 16 minutes up front suggests Bandai Namco thinks the game sells itself once you're in the cockpit.
