Twenty-seven years before an arrest, then a conviction in about three hours of deliberation. Now the case that finally closed the loop on Tupac's murder is getting a documentary, and this one is told from inside the family.
## What was announced Sky has commissioned an untitled feature documentary following the prosecution of Duane "Keefe D" Davis. Director Marian Mohamed filmed with the Shakur family, including Tupac's brother Mopreme Shakur, as the Las Vegas case played out. Per HotNewHipHop, which reported it Wednesday, September 23, the film includes personal footage that's never been released and photos from the family archive.
Passion Pictures produces, with Propagate Content and West Buttermilk. It premieres on Sky Documentaries and NOW in 2027. No U.S. distributor yet, and no title.
## Where the case stands A Clark County jury convicted Keefe D of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon on August 31. Reuters reported the jury deliberated for roughly three hours. Prosecutors said he helped set up the September 1996 shooting after Tupac and his crew beat Orlando Anderson, Keefe D's nephew, at the MGM Grand. He was never accused of pulling the trigger. Sentencing is October 13. Sky says its cameras will stay on through that hearing. Keefe D has said he'll appeal. We covered the jail-violation records that surfaced ahead of sentencing.
## Two films, two sides This isn't the first project on the case. A separate documentary has been built around access to Keefe D and his family. Sky's film is the other side of the same courtroom: the Shakurs, and people from Tupac's inner circle. Mohamed has said she wants to use the trial as a way into Tupac's life, not treat the verdict as the whole story.
## The read For decades Tupac's death has been told by cops, by rappers on podcasts, and by the man now convicted of setting it up, who wrote a book about it. A film where Mopreme and the family get to speak without the conspiracy noise around them is overdue. The real test is whether it reaches U.S. screens. Right now it's a UK commission with a 2027 date.
