Chance the Rapper is thinking about taking "Chance" out of his own name. Ten years after Coloring Book, the Chicago artist who built a whole independent blueprint on his name says he'd rather just be The Rapper.
## What he said Chance made the comments on the Tea Time podcast with Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday, which went up Oct. 1. XXL has him at about the 20:41 mark saying he's going to take off the "Chance" and "just wanna be The Rapper." His framing: he wants to carry rap the way rap has carried him through life. Complex also ran it Oct. 2, and The Source and Vice picked it up. Note the language everyone used: considering, weighing, teasing. Nothing has been filed, announced or changed on streaming platforms.

## The why, per Complex According to Complex, Chance signaled he's moving away from the vulnerability and personal storytelling that defined his earlier work, and toward lyrical craft: rappers as "etymologists and linguists at heart." He pointed to André 3000 and Kanye West as examples of artists who balanced openness with less autobiographical material.
## The timing He's mid-tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of Coloring Book, with dates running through Oct. 11 and a finish in Pittsburgh, per Complex. His latest studio album, Star Line, came out in August 2025. A decade after the mixtape that won a Grammy without a label and made independent a real lane, he's talking about stripping his name down to the job title.
## The read The independence argument was always about ownership, and a name is the first thing you own. "Chance" carried the church-kid, Chicago-open-mic story for ten years. "The Rapper" is a bet that the craft outlasts the narrative. It's also a branding risk: every catalog stream, every Grammy credit and every search result lives under the old name. Whether this is a real rebrand or a podcast thought that got a headline, we'll know when the paperwork or the next single says so.
