The Ex-GTA Boss's Studio Can't Pay Its Bills.

Leslie Benzies' Build A Rocket Boy has appointed administrators after confirming it can't pay creditors, one week after another round of layoffs. The MindsEye flop finally caught up with it.

The man who produced the GTA games that made Rockstar North famous built his own studio, shipped one game, and now it's in administration, weeks before GTA VI arrives.

## What happened Build A Rocket Boy, the Edinburgh studio behind MindsEye, has appointed Opus Advisory Group as administrators, per GamesIndustry.biz via GamingBolt (@GamingBoltTweet) on Sept. 25. In the U.K., administration means the company is insolvent and is getting legal protection from creditors while it tries to restructure or sell.

The numbers from its last available accounts, for the year ending Sept. 30, 2025: £47.5 million operating loss, £36.2 million net loss, and £61.8 million owed to creditors.

## How it got here MindsEye launched in June 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and got hammered. The studio kept patching (a new ending, more tools for its Arcadia creation suite, even a 5v5 "Grenade Football" mode), but the damage was done. A new round of layoffs hit a week ago, and Kotaku's sources, via GamingBolt, already doubted the studio would survive.

Workers had been raising alarms for a while. MindsEye lead animator Chris Wilson described months of unpaid crunch, "somewhere between six to nine months" in cinematics, resulting in "horrific mental and even physical illnesses." Per Checkpoint, the studio also put Teramind surveillance software on staff PCs in February without their consent, which led to legal action in April.

## The read A famous résumé raised the money. It didn't make the game good. Benzies had a hand in GTA's biggest era, and investors paid for that name. But GTA was made by hundreds of people inside a system, not by one producer. And the workers are the ones taking the hit here, first with the crunch and now with an insolvent employer, while Vice City gets a $400 collector's box down the road.
