Every rapper says ownership. Young Thug just set up a company whose whole business is making other people owners.
## What launched Thug's new company is called Primal, a creative holding company that "creates, acquires, invests in and scales intellectual property alongside artists, athletes and creators." XXL (@XXL) laid out the rollout Sept. 25: he teased it on X earlier this month, and the company went official on its Instagram, with a formal statement to Baller Alert on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The pitch in his own words: "I'm bringing up a new generation of founders. I want talent to build, own, and keep the upside. Ownership over endorsements."

## How it works Primal brings capital, creative development, operations, partnerships and distribution. The talent brings the name and takes founder and ownership stakes. Categories on the list: consumer products, sports, entertainment, media, fashion, tech, hospitality, licensing. Thug told Baller Alert it could mean launching a brand with an artist, investing in something they already started, or bringing in the right partners and money. On athletes: "It's not about putting somebody's face on a product. It's about sitting down with them and saying, 'What should you own?'"
First ventures are expected "in the coming months." No names yet.
## He's done this before SP5DER, the Atlanta streetwear brand Thug founded, is the proof of concept. The spider-web hoodies sold on his own name without a big-company license deal behind them. Earlier this month he told XXL "Marketing is dead", and this week he was at the Next Level Boys Academy telling Atlanta teens guns aren't worth it. It's the same message both times: build something that lasts longer than the moment.

## The part that matters For fifty years the deal was simple: the artist is the face, the corporation owns the brand, the artist gets a check and a sneaker. Thug is going after that deal directly. Whether Primal delivers depends on the cap tables, and nobody has seen one yet. But a rapper who spent years in a RICO case and came out of it building infrastructure for other people's equity is a story worth watching. Watch who signs first.
