Two weeks ago the second case was delayed with no new date. Now there is one, and it's eleven months out.
## The order On Wednesday, Sept. 30, U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald signed off on the continuance, per XXL. The VICAR trial that had been set for Oct. 5 now starts Aug. 30, 2027. His reasoning, from the ruling: the case "is so unusual and so complex, due to the nature of the prosecution, including the conspiracy charges against all defendants, the volume of discovery, and the number of defendants that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for pre-trial proceedings or for the trial itself within the time limits established by the Speedy Trial Act."
## What's still charged The Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering counts came in a third superseding indictment before the murder-for-hire trial and were severed from it. They reference the Quando Rondo shooting Durk was acquitted over on Sept. 11, plus a 2019 shooting in Atlanta and a 2022 murder in Chicago. He denies all of it and remains in federal custody, where he's been since October 2024.

## Why Nov. 4 is the date The bond review hearing on Nov. 4 is where his lawyers argue that a man a jury cleared of the central act shouldn't sit another ten months waiting on related charges. XXL expects the defense to push for dismissal too, since the acquittal took out the main overt act in the racketeering theory. A continuance to 2027 makes that argument stronger, not weaker: the government just told the court it needs most of a year to get ready.
## The read Durk's acquittal was the loudest hip-hop legal win of the year. The quiet part is that he's still inside. For the people who watched Thug take a plea to get home and Durk take it to a verdict, the next chapter isn't August 2027. It's a hearing in five weeks.
