The Last of Us Day came and went with avatars, merch and casting news. Then Neil Druckmann saved the real news for last.
## What Druckmann said In a post on Naughty Dog's blog closing out the day, Druckmann confirmed the studio has started work on "a couple" of new projects that expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II. Push Square reported Sept. 29 that they're in very early stages. His reason for going back: the studio "wouldn't return to it unless we had something meaningful to say."
One thing to keep straight: he said "projects," not "games." Naughty Dog makes games, so that's the safe bet, but nothing's been named, dated or put on a platform. At this stage of development, PS6 is the likely home.
## And Intergalactic? Quiet for the rest of 2026. Druckmann said the team needs more time to cook and promised a proper look at the studio's "most ambitious game" in 2027. To hold fans over, Naughty Dog released new concept art of lead Jordan A. Mun on the planet Sempiria.

That's a big deal for us. Intergalactic is Naughty Dog's first new IP since 2013. Its lead is played by Tati Gabrielle, a Black woman, in the studio's first new world in over a decade, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on the score. Waiting until 2027 to show it properly is frustrating, but there are fair reasons. God of War Laufey owns Sony's spotlight until February, and GTA VI takes over November.
## The take Two Last of Us projects announced this early is Naughty Dog telling investors and fans that the franchise isn't done after Factions got canceled and Part II divided people. Fair enough. Intergalactic is still what matters more. A new world with a Black woman leading it from a studio this size is rare, and 2027 is when Naughty Dog has to show it's worth the wait.
