NBA YoungBoy told i-D he wants out. Not eventually. Now.
## What he said In a new i-D cover story, YoungBoy was asked about the road ahead and gave the line that lit up timelines: "I want to quit right now, actually." XXL's write-up adds the other half of the quote. He says it is "way bigger than me," and that his influence on people, his kids most of all, is what keeps him in the game for now. HotNewHipHop, Oct. 6 has him saying he just wants to make people happy, and reads the interview as a sign fans shouldn't expect new music soon.
## Not a first This isn't out of nowhere. XXL notes he told Funny Marco in August that the run is ending soon, with "one or two" albums left and one tour for sure. He's already put out two projects this year, Slime Cry in January and ML2 in June, per XXL. Complex also covered the i-D interview.
## What we're not saying Nobody has announced a retirement, a final album or a date. This is an artist answering a question in a magazine, and YoungBoy has talked about stepping back before. Treat it as a mood, not a plan. XXL also says the American YoungBoy documentary cleared $1 million in its first week in theaters; we haven't verified that figure against a second outlet.
## The read He's one of the few rappers who can drop on his own schedule and still move the culture. A man at that level saying he wants to quit changes how every future drop gets read, and how every leak gets argued about. We'll be watching for the next move, whatever it is.
