John Legend's Muse lands October 23 on Republic Records, and Pharrell Williams produced and co-wrote the whole thing. Per uDiscover Music, it's their first full album together after more than twenty years of friendship.
How it started
Legend got on Clipse's "The Birds Don't Sing." That's the spark. Sessions began in January 2025 at Pharrell's studio inside the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris. Legend says he wanted to break his usual piano-ballad formula and do something new.
The sound
The reporting describes gospel, doo-wop, soul, standards, Afrobeat and hip-hop, with orchestral and cinematic touches. Lead single "Daylight" came out September 9. Named tracks include "Muse," "Her," "Get Back" with Pharrell, and "Bodies on the Floor" featuring Clipse. That last one is the hip-hop hook. Pusha T and Malice on a Legend record is a cosign you can hear before you press play. I haven't seen a full tracklist, so that's all I'll name.
Where it sits in October
It shares a date with Anderson .Paak and Cordae's Heavy Is The Crown, so Oct. 23 is a loaded Friday. We broke down the month in our October 2026 hip-hop albums calendar. Pharrell has been the quiet architect of Black pop for decades. This one gives him a lane without a rapper out front.
Built for the culture. Operated from San Diego. Run by PHRHX through Sneakz & Beatz LLC. Black-owned, four pillars: sneakers, hip-hop, anime, gaming.
