Doechii is telling you what her first album is about before she tells you what it's called.
Per XXL on Oct. 12, the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper released the "Bombs" music video on Monday as part of her Swap Sessions series, and posted a diary entry on Instagram Story about the project. She says she wants to see Black womanhood at the center of hip-hop and pop. "I spent the last few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student," she wrote, per XXL.
## The video Doechii directed "Bombs" herself. XXL describes her rapping fast in a metallic bikini while her breastplate turns into a gun turret that fires sparklers. It reads as a statement on control: she's behind the camera and in front of it.
## The album The diary entry describes a two-year creative process and years spent studying hip-hop's history and roots before trying to move it forward. XXL notes she didn't give a title or a release date for the debut. Treat anything beyond that as a rumor until she or TDE says more.
Her last major project, the 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, won Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammys, per XXL. That raises the bar for a first official album, and her answer so far is a thesis, not a single. She's 28, per XXL, and she's framing the debut as a classroom, not a victory lap.
## Why it matters Hip-hop's female lane has been argued about for years: who gets the platform, who gets the marketing, who gets called a hip-hop artist at all. Doechii is taking that argument head-on with a Grammy behind her. Whether the album delivers is the only question that counts, and she hasn't given a date to judge it by.
