Doechii released the video for "Bombs" on Monday, October 12, as part of her Swap Sessions, and wrote a diary entry about what she wants her debut album to do. She didn't give the album a title or a release date, per XXL.
The video
She directed it herself. It's her in a metallic bikini, rapid-fire, no wasted bars. Short version: she's showing you the rap before she asks for the rest of the conversation.
What she wrote
XXL quotes her saying she spent "the last few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student." She says a "mission is brewing inside of me" to see Black womanhood "exist at the center of Hip-Hop AND Pop." And she wants to be "the dark skin ICON my little girl eyes wanted to see."
Why it hits
That last line is the one. Dark-skinned Black women have been in hip-hop forever and been sidelined from the center of it just as long. Hearing an artist at her level say it plainly, on her own terms, matters more than another tracklist tease. Her 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal won Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammys, so she's not asking for a seat. She's already holding the trophy.
What we don't know
No album title. No release date. No tracklist. XXL says she didn't reveal when it's coming. Anything else floating around is speculation until she says it.
The take
Listen, a debut after a Grammy win is a hard spot. Expectations are a weight. But the way she's framing it, as a statement and not a sales pitch, tells me she knows what she's carrying. Watch the video, then wait for the date.
