Final Fantasy Resonance launches Thursday, Oct. 22, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 and PC, per Notebookcheck and Game Informer. Price was not stated in the sources we checked.
What it is
Game Informer's Kyle Hilliard describes it as a heavily overhauled port of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Sony and Square Enix announced the release date and a demo during a September State of Play, where Sephiroth was also revealed, with Cloud already in the game.
The demo
A free demo covering the opening through Chapter 1 has been available since early September, which Square Enix estimates at three to five hours. Demo save data carries over to the full game, per Notebookcheck. If you have been waiting, five hours of play is a better review than any trailer.
The read
Mobile-to-console ports usually mean skepticism about monetization and padding. A long free demo with portable saves is the studio answering that before launch. It lands in a week stacked with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Oct. 23, so Thursday is the quiet window for an RPG to get noticed.
