60,000 Showed Up Anyway

City leaders spent weeks trying to pull the plug. On July 4 the Alamodome filled up regardless, and there was no encore.

For weeks the story in San Antonio wasn't the music. It was whether the show should happen at all. City leaders questioned putting the city-owned Alamodome behind Ye, and the mayor said out loud she'd back a cancellation.

Then Saturday came. Thousands filled the building, and the count ran past 60,000 — Ye called it one of the best-attended nights the venue's ever had. Fans drove in from all over Texas and further to be in the room.

## The backdrop nobody's ignoring The pushback traces to his history of antisemitic comments, the same history that already cost him his whole European summer. Back in January he took out a full-page Wall Street Journal ad to apologize, saying he's not a Nazi or an antisemite and putting the past behavior on a brain injury and bipolar disorder. People can weigh that how they weigh it. What's not in dispute: the building filled up.

## No encore City officials confirmed there'd be no July 5 encore. The contract left room for a second night if he asked 15 days out — he never made the request in the window, so the run was one and done.
