The 17 was never a street shoe
Understand what the 17 was built to be. It dropped in 2002 as Jordan's most expensive sneaker ever — $200 at retail — and it came packaged in a metal briefcase with a jazz CD inside. Tinker Hatfield and Wilson Smith leaned all the way into golf, jazz and luxury. This was MJ in his Wizards front-office-and-owner era: the shoe was aspiration, not playground.
