The studio that made a career out of pocket monsters just dropped something with actual blood in it. Beast of Reincarnation is here, and it is nothing like Pikachu.
## What dropped Game Freak's dark action-RPG Beast of Reincarnation launched August 4, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, published by Fictions. Set in a ruined Japan in the year 4026, it follows Emma the Sealer and her blighted dog Koo across a post-apocalyptic land, hunting bosses and stealing their powers. Famitsu handed it a 35/40, and GamesRadar+ called the combat "firm but fair."

## Why it matters This is Game Freak swinging in the exact opposite direction of Pokemon: a bloody, melancholic, one-person-one-dog action game. It is the clearest proof yet that the studio wants to be known for more than Gen 10, and it lands day one on Xbox Game Pass, which means millions can sample it for free.
## The read The reviews are a study in contrast. PC Gamer called it "fun, admirable, gorgeous and flawed," and Game Informer summed the split up in its headline: beguiling combat, boring world. When the fighting is this creative and the environments feel this empty, you get a game people argue about instead of ignore. That argument is worth more than a safe 8.
## The move If you have Game Pass, this is a no-brainer download this week. Everyone else: watch the combat clips, feel out whether a moody boss-hunt loop is your thing, and remember that Koo the dog is doing a lot of the emotional heavy lifting.
