For twenty-five years, "Halo is on Xbox" was a law of the culture. Today it stopped being true.
## What dropped Halo: Campaign Evolved launches today, July 28, on PS5, Xbox and PC — $49.99, day-one on Game Pass. It's an Unreal Engine 5 rebuild of the 2001 Combat Evolved with new missions. Early access opened July 23; it topped the PlayStation Store pre-order charts worldwide before it even fully launched.
## Why it's bigger than a remake The game itself is a solid, not spectacular, redo — an OpenCritic "Strong 83" across roughly 39 reviews, the weakest-reviewed mainline Halo to date. But the score is the sideshow. The story is Master Chief in a PS5 case. The single hardest platform border in gaming just came down, and Microsoft is the one who took the wall apart.
## The culture read This is a business move dressed as nostalgia. Microsoft is done selling boxes and is now selling Halo to everyone who owns any box. When the mascot of the console war shows up on the rival console, the war was already over — this is just the paperwork.
## The move Watch the PS5 sales split. If Sony owners buy Chief in real numbers, every remaining Xbox exclusive is on the table next.
