Tyga's whole career is reading the room and switching lanes early. His next move is the boldest swerve yet — he's not dropping a Tyga album, he's becoming somebody else.
## What's dropping "$TARFACE" arrives July 31 — a 10-track project built around a full 1980s alter-ego of the same name. It trades Tyga's trap default for synth-wave, pop, R&B and funk, blending singing and rapping into a cinematic, era-specific sound. Singles "Affection" and "GAVE U RACKS" are already out, along with "Lavi$h" featuring Fenix Flexin, whose IG preview cleared 13 million views before the album even landed.
## The concept This isn't a loosie repackage. $TARFACE is a fully built persona set in a fictional early-'80s Miami — tailored silk, vintage luxury, Jheri curls — an original story loosely riffing on Scarface mythology without being it. It follows 2025's "NSFW," his first solo album in six years, which had Big Sean, Lil Wayne, Cher and Ty Dolla $ign in the mix.
## The read Concept albums are a gamble — they either become a signature or a footnote. But an alter-ego lets an artist take swings his main name can't, and Tyga betting on a full '80s world instead of chasing the current sound is at least interesting, which is more than most of the release calendar can say.
## The move July 31. Go in expecting a mood piece, not a club run — that's the whole point of $TARFACE.
