## The record that made history When Roxanne Shanté lit the fuse in the Roxanne Wars, Sparky D answered with 'Sparky's Turn (Roxanne, You're Through)' in 1985. The single reportedly sold more than 300,000 copies within days and later went gold — proof, on wax, that a woman could stand in the exchange and hold her own bar for bar.
## Brownsville roots, a real catalog She came out of Brooklyn and worked with a generation of pioneers — Spyder D, Roxanne Shanté, Kool DJ Red Alert and more. In 1988 she released a full-length, 'This Is Sparky D's World,' on B-Boy Records. She was in the rooms where the culture's earliest battle language got written.
## A second act in faith Her later life wasn't a straight line, and she was open about the hard parts. She found her footing again in Christianity, moved to Atlanta, founded Treasure Ministries and turned toward gospel — winning a Gospel Choice Award in 2007. She kept building, just on a different stage.
