What got announced
Crunchyroll capped its Anime Expo 2026 showcase with "Solo Leveling: Beyond the System," a movie continuing the story after Season 2 ("Arise From the Shadows"). Sung Jinwoo's English voice actor, Aleks Le, introduced a teaser concept video and the film's first key visual on stage. A-1 Pictures returns to animate, with the movie co-produced alongside Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media and Kakao Piccoma. A separate Season 3 is reportedly further out — D&C has pointed to a 2027–2028 window — so the film is the next thing fans actually get.
From webtoon to the biggest room at AX
Here's the arc worth sitting with. Solo Leveling started as a Korean web novel, became a manhwa on Kakao's platforms, then an A-1 anime that turned into one of the loudest properties in the medium. Closing the Crunchyroll AX showcase is the top of the mountain for a franchise — and this one climbed it from a webtoon, not a decades-old manga. That's the shift: the pipeline that used to run only through Japanese publishers now runs through Seoul too.

Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media, Kakao Piccoma. That credit roll is the real story. A game company (Netmarble already built a Solo Leveling mobile game), the original manhwa publisher, and the platforms that host it are all stacked on one film. The culture treats Solo Leveling like a show. The paperwork treats it like a portfolio — anime, games, merch, IP rights spread across a group of companies who all get paid when Jinwoo levels up. Same pattern we point at with every property our audience loves: the fans supply the obsession, the owners supply the invoice.
Why our audience should care
Solo Leveling's power-fantasy core — a nobody grinds into the strongest — hits the same nerve as a come-up record. It's an underdog story with a leveling system, and it crossed over hard with the same crowd that lives in hip-hop and gaming. A theatrical continuation keeps that crossover fed while the actual Season 3 sits a year or two out. The movie is the bridge.
Where it sits for us
Anime pillar story with the ownership-and-origins lens up top, not a plot recap. The hook for the next person on the chain: Solo Leveling went from a Korean webtoon to closing Anime Expo — and a whole group of companies own the come-up.
Built for the culture. Operated from San Diego. Run by PHRHX through Sneakz & Beatz LLC. Black-owned, four pillars: sneakers, hip-hop, anime, gaming.
