Rod Wave Opens on a Funeral And Closes on 'Don't Look Down'

The Alamo star's seventh album lands August 28 with a cinematic Mainstay Films trailer and a North American tour.

One of the biggest dates left on the summer release calendar came back into focus this weekend. Rod Wave's next chapter has a name, a date and a mission statement — and it opens on a funeral.

The Announcement

Don't Look Down, Rod Wave's seventh studio album, arrives August 28 via Alamo Records — his first full-length since 2024's Last Lap. Streaming listings currently point to a hefty 24-to-27-track runtime, very much in character for the Florida hitmaker.

The Rollout

The reveal came with a cinematic trailer produced through his own Mainstay Films, co-starring Golden Globe-nominated actor Danny Hudson. It opens on a funeral scene before cutting to an office where Rod delivers the project's thesis to a room of associates: "We keep going, and we don't look down." A North American Don't Look Down tour has been announced alongside it, and Billboard reports a single is on the way.

Where He Stands

Last Lap debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and gave Rod his fourth straight No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums — his fifth consecutive Top 3 entry. In a year stacked with heavyweight rap releases, a late-August Rod Wave drop is the kind of quiet juggernaut that tends to over-perform its hype.
