Some series go quiet so long you assume they’re gone. Onimusha was one of them — until Capcom put a date on the screen. ‘Way of the Sword’ lands September 25, and it’s the real return fans gave up waiting for.
Twenty years between swings
This is the first mainline Onimusha since 2006. Two decades. Capcom revealed the date at June’s State of Play and confirmed a free demo is coming, which is the move of a studio that wants you to feel the steel before you commit. For a franchise that helped define cinematic action on the PS2, coming back with a hard date instead of another vague tease is the part that makes it real.
Single-player, samurai, right in the pocket
‘Way of the Sword’ is exactly the kind of game this show leans toward — single-player, story-driven, a sharp combat loop built around the blade and the demon-slaying that made the original run stand out. No live service, no battle pass, no waiting on friends to log on. Just you, a sword, and a world to cut through. That’s the lane.
Capcom on a run
Capcom’s spent the last few years reminding everyone how to revive a dormant name without ruining it. Bringing Onimusha back fits that pattern: respect the original, sharpen the systems, give it a real budget and a real date. The demo coming alongside the announcement says they’re confident the swordplay holds up.
Mark the 25th
September 25 isn’t tomorrow, but it’s close enough to plan for, and the demo means you can test the feel before launch. If you came up on the series — or you just want a clean single-player action game with a samurai edge — this is one to put on the board.
Why it’s on the show
We rank gaming by views and filter to the host’s single-player lane, and a 20-years-later return with a firm date checks both boxes. Onimusha didn’t get forgotten. It got sharpened.
