What's streaming
Season 2 premiered July 17, 2026 on Crunchyroll with a same-day English dub. CloverWorks is back on the adaptation of Yusei Matsui's Shonen Jump manga, with director Yuta Yamazaki, series composer Yoriko Tomita, and character designer Yasushi Nishiya all returning. Continuity intact — which for a show this pretty is the whole ballgame.
The shift in the story
Season 1 was survival: a boy prince outrunning the men who slaughtered his family, winning by dodging instead of fighting. Season 2 turns him from fugitive to insurgent — the running stops, the war starts. That's a real tonal pivot, and it's the part of the manga fans have been waiting to see animated by a studio that treats every frame like a painting.
Why CloverWorks matters here
CloverWorks is one of the few studios whose name alone sells a season — the same house behind some of the most visually loaded anime of the last few years. On Elusive Samurai they turn 14th-century Japanese history into color and motion that has no business looking this good. Keeping the full creative team is the flex.
The cultural read
Shonen keeps getting called formulaic, then a show like this uses the frame to do something specific — real history, a hero who wins by evasion, art that argues for itself. Matsui already proved with Assassination Classroom that he bends the genre on purpose. Season 2 is the bend getting sharper, and Crunchyroll putting a same-day dub on it says they know what they've got.
