Edgerunners Season 2 got its first look at Anime Expo 2026 — and it's a brand-new story, not a continuation of the first.

Cyberpunk always gets a beat, and this side of it lives in anime. Edgerunners Season 2 got its official first look at Anime Expo 2026, and the key detail is what it isn't: this isn't a continuation of season one.

It's a brand-new story in the same world. Different characters, same Night City.

Why a fresh story is the smart move

Season one told a complete, gut-punch arc — the kind that doesn't need a sequel bolted on. Rather than stretch it, the team is using the world instead of the characters. Night City is the real star: a place big and brutal enough to hold a hundred different stories. Anthology-style is how you keep it fresh without cheapening the original.

What it means for the game

Edgerunners did something rare — an anime that sent players flooding back to the game it's based on. A second season keeps that engine running while CD Projekt builds the sequel. The show and the game feed each other, and both sides win when Night City stays in the conversation.
