Cyberpunk's a fixture on this show, and this week it's a game story. CD Projekt's creative director confirmed the sequel — still in pre-production under the Orion working name — keeps every bit of its story in first-person. No third-person cutscenes, no matter how many times fans ask for them. The whole point is total immersion.
That's a real design stance, not a shrug. The team decided early: you see the world through V's replacement, front to back, and they're not breaking that to show your character from the outside. Love it or hate it, they committed.
Why the choice matters
A lot of fans wanted third-person, especially for the character and outfit systems people pour hours into. Keeping it first-person only says CDPR values the seamless, you-are-there feeling over letting you admire your own build. It's a bet on immersion as the identity of the series.
A new city, a new tone
Original creator Mike Pondsmith says the sequel moves to a new city that feels 'less like Blade Runner and more like Chicago gone wrong.' That's a tone shift worth sitting with. The first game leaned hard on neon-noir Night City. A grittier, more grounded American-dystopia feel would be a different flavor of the same world.
The timeline, honestly
Don't hold your breath. The game's in pre-production. Expect the first real teaser late this year, a gameplay reveal in 2027, and a launch no sooner than late 2027. This is a direction update, not a release date. But for a single-player RPG this size, knowing where the creative head is pointed is the news.
The first game clawed its way to a full redemption arc. The sequel just told us how it plans to build on it — through your eyes, in a rougher city.
